How should organizations make better decisions when demand is uncertain, resources are constrained, service matters, and cost cannot be ignored?
My work spans workforce and capacity planning, supply chain and operations, forecasting, optimization, simulation, analytics, and practical applications of AI. The industries may look very different. The underlying decisions often do not.
OPERATING PHILOSOPHY
Understand deeply. Solve simply.
I believe many difficult business problems can be solved with surprisingly simple methods—if the business is understood deeply enough first.
Before building a sophisticated optimization model, machine-learning system, or simulation, I prefer to establish a transparent baseline that captures the essential structure of the problem. That baseline clarifies what drives the decision, exposes questionable assumptions, provides a sanity check, creates a benchmark for more sophisticated methods, and often produces a useful answer much faster.
The objective is not to build the most sophisticated model. It is to find the simplest approach that gets the decision right.
DECISION-FIRST METHOD
Business questions first. Models second.
Analytical work should begin with the decision—not the technique. Only then should we decide whether the right tool is forecasting, optimization, simulation, queueing, machine learning, AI—or something much simpler.
What decision are we actually trying to make?
What tradeoffs matter?
Which constraints are real?
What uncertainty could change the answer?
What information is essential—and what can safely be left out?
